What's New in iOS 18.1 Beta 3: Adds ‘Clean Up’ Photo with Apple Intelligence

Apple recently released iOS 18.1 Beta 3 and iPadOS 18.1 Beta 3 for developers, adding more features related to Apple Intelligence for supported devices. Here’s what I’ve found new so far.

Clean Up

iOS 18.1 Beta 3 introduces the Clean Up feature, using Apple Intelligence to identify unwanted objects in the background and allowing you to remove them with just a tap or by circling the area you want to clean up.

Clean Up works with all photos in your library, even those not taken by you.

According to Apple, this feature uses various machine learning models to detect distractions, identify the edges of objects, and then seamlessly fill in the area to replace the unwanted object, even filling in shadows or reflections. Therefore, when you first use Clean Up, you’ll need an internet connection to download the machine learning models, but after that, it will work without a network connection.

Even if you draw a circle over any face in a photo, Clean Up will automatically censor it for you. How cool is that?

Các hình ảnh được chỉnh sửa bằng Clean Up sẽ được gắn nhãn là “Modified with Clean Up” trong ứng dụng Photos và thông tin này cũng được bao gồm trong dữ liệu EXIF của ảnh.

To use Clean Up, select the photo you want to edit, tap the edit icon in the bottom menu, and choose Clean Up.

Summarize Notification

iOS 18.1 Beta 3 expands the Summarize Notification feature to all apps, which was previously only available for the Mail and Messages apps.

This feature uses Apple Intelligence to gather important information from notifications, helping you quickly view what matters most.

You can enable or disable this feature in Settings - Notifications - Summarize Preview, where you can turn it off completely or only enable it for specific apps.

Inline Stickers

iOS 18.1 Beta 3 allows you to use stickers from third party apps to be used inline for emojis. Thanks to @aaronp613 for this find.

New Animation When Viewing Albums in Apple Music

When opening or closing an album in Apple Music, you’ll now see a new animation similar to the one used when closing an app in iOS. It’s more visually appealing and smoother than the previous sliding effect.

Earlier in iOS 18 Beta, this animation was also applied when browsing movies and TV shows in the TV app.

Apple Intelligence No Longer Requires US Region

iOS 18.1 Beta 3 no longer requires your device to be set to the United States region to use Apple Intelligence. So you can switch back to your country’s region in Settings - General - Language & Region. However, the device language and Siri language must still be set to English (US).

Please note that Apple Intelligence is not currently available in the EU and China.

Home Screen Blur Is Back

In previous iOS 18 Beta updates (including Beta 8), Apple removed the background blur effect in the App Library and Widget pages from the Home Screen. This change made it harder for users to focus on the information being displayed.

It seems that iOS 18.1 Beta 3 has brought back the blur effect, similar to how it was in iOS 17 and earlier.

In case you missed it, here’s what’s new in iOS 18.1 Beta 1 and Beta 2

Don’t forget follow @BetaProfiles on X , Threads , or Facebook . I’ll post on those platforms before updating it here.
