For those waiting for the next major iPhone update, the good news is that you will not have to wait much longer. iOS 27 is coming very soon. Here is the expected official release date, availability, and key features you need to know.
At the moment, iOS 27 is in the final stage of its beta cycle. If you cannot wait, you can install iOS 27 Beta to try it out early. The recent beta releases have been very stable, so you can feel comfortable installing them on your primary iPhone.
Expected iOS 27 Release Date
Apple usually releases major iOS updates in mid September, around a week after introducing its new iPhone models. So, iOS 27 is likely to follow a similar release schedule.

The RC (Release Candidate) is usually released after Apple’s keynote event introducing the new iPhone lineup. Apple has announced that it will hold an event on September 9 at 10:00 AM PDT, so iOS 27 RC could be released around 12:00 PM PDT on September 9, 2026.
Based on Apple’s tendency to release major software updates on Mondays, I expect iOS 27 to be officially released at around 10:00 AM PDT on Monday, September 14, 2026.

iOS 27 Features
iOS 27 brings major improvements to Siri, now referred to as Siri AI. It is smarter, more powerful, and more personalized. Liquid Glass has also been refined and now includes a system wide transparency slider. Overall performance has been improved as well, with faster app launches, faster AirDrop transfers, and many other new features and changes.

iOS 27.1 Beta Is Coming Soon
Once iOS 27 is publicly released, Apple will quickly shift its focus to developing and testing iOS 27.1. Here are the release dates from previous years:
- iOS 26.1 Beta 1: Monday, September 22, 2025 (7 days after iOS 26 was released)
- iOS 18.1 Beta 4[1]: Tuesday, September 17, 2024 (1 day after iOS 18 was released)
- iOS 17.1 Beta 1: Wednesday, September 27, 2023 (9 days after iOS 17 was released)

There is no clear pattern for when Apple releases the first X.1 beta. However, since iOS 26.1 Beta was released one week after the public release of iOS 26 last year, if Apple follows the same schedule this year, iOS 27.1 Beta 1 could be released on Monday, September 21, 2026.
Of course, Apple could always release it earlier or later than this estimated timeframe, but it will most likely arrive sometime in mid to late September.
