What's New in iOS 26.5 Beta 2?

Apple has released iOS 26.5 beta 2 today, right on the two-week mark as I predicted earlier. X.5 beta 2 updates typically arrive about two weeks after beta 1. Let’s take a look at what’s new in this update.

In case you missed it, here’s what was added in iOS 26.5 Beta 1: What’s New in iOS 26.5 Beta 1 →

iOS 26.5 Developer Beta 2
Build: 23F5054h
Released: April 13, 2026

Apple Maps

iOS 26.5 beta 2 adds a new splash screen about ads in Apple Maps.

Apple announced last month that Apple Maps will introduce ads this summer, starting in the U.S. and Canada. Apple says ads will be shown based on approximate location, current search keywords, or the map view while searching.

Here’s an example of how ads will appear in Apple Maps. An “Ad” label will also be shown, similar to existing ads in the App Store.

New Pride Wallpaper Coming Soon

iOS X.5 updates usually include a new Pride wallpaper ahead of Pride Month in June, and iOS 26.5 beta 2 gives us an early glimpse of what’s coming to iPhone and iPad. Here’s how the new Pride wallpaper is described in iOS 26.5 beta 2 (via @aaronp613):

Diverse colors glow softly behind pillars of frosted glass

Alongside the new wallpaper, Apple is also expected to release a new Pride watch face for Apple Watch, as well as new bands, likely in early May.

Lock Screen

The Face ID icon and its animation now appear on the iPadOS 26.5 Lock Screen when unlocking an iPad. This change has actually been there since beta 1, but hadn’t been reported until now.

Thanks to @KingDando!

App Store

In the App Store, Apple has renamed “Updates” to “App Updates” and moved it to the top of the Apple Account page.

Update: This change comes from the App Store backend, so it applies to iOS 26.4, 26.4.1, and iOS 26.5 beta.

Animation Bug

User reports indicate that iOS 26.5 beta 2 drops frames in the animation when swiping up from the Lock Screen.

I’ve shared a comparison video on X that you can check out below :backhand_index_pointing_down:

App Icon Bug in the App Store

Some app icons in the App Store appear with a strange white square background, especially noticeable when Dark Mode is enabled.

Bug Fixes

  • Siri suggestions now work when using Type to Siri (double-tap the Home bar). This feature was previously not working in iOS 26.4, iOS 26.4.1, and iOS 26.5 beta 1.

Aside from this addition, iOS 26.5 beta 2 appears to have very few visible changes. I’ll keep adding more iOS 26.5 Beta 2 changes and new features here as I discover them. Stay tuned and follow @BetaProfiles on X or Threads!

I suppose that in this beta, it will be polishing and polishing, we go maintenance and stability, but not evolution! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

There is a new App Icon for the Final Cut Camera-App.

You’re right, but this is an App Store app, not a built-in one, so its icon can be changed through an app update.

There is a new animation when you unlock your iPad Pro (with Face ID)

Info

I hadn’t tested the iOS 26.5 Beta 1 on my iPad Pro. In any case, however, a new feature in iOS 26.5 Beta 1 or iOS 26.5 Beta 2

My iPad Air (with Touch ID) had a similar animation for a long time. But now also for Face ID devices

Ah, I knew something looked new there but couldn’t remember what the old version looked like. It seems to have been introduced in iOS 26.5 beta 1. Thanks for the report.

The addition of binoculars and the addition of weather

That’s not a new feature, it’s been around for quite a while.
