iOS 18.1 is expected to launch in mid-October, and as of now, there have been five beta releases since it first rolled out in late July. So, what’s next? Naturally, iOS 18.2 Beta will follow soon after.
When will iOS 18.1 be released?
iOS 18.1 is a big update for the newly released iPhone 16 series, as it will bring Apple Intelligence to these devices for the first time. Apple has confirmed that iOS 18.1 will drop in October, so here’s my prediction based on past release dates:
- iOS 17.1: Wednesday, October 25, 2023
- iOS 16.1: Monday, October 24, 2022
- iOS 15.1: Monday, October 25, 2021
UPDATE on October 6: Mark Gurman expects that iOS 18.1 will be released on Monday, October 28, 2024, differing from previous rumors suggesting that it would launch in mid-October.

When will iOS 18.2 Beta be released?
After iOS 18.1 drops, Apple will likely release iOS 18.2 Beta within a few days. Here’s what past beta releases looked like:

- iOS 16.2 Beta 1: Tuesday, October 25, 2022

Therefore, I predict iOS 18.2 Beta 1 will be released around October 29-30, 2024.
What’s new in iOS 18.2 Beta?
Although it hasn’t been released yet, iOS 18.2 Beta is expected to introduce additional Apple Intelligence features missing from iOS 18.1, including:
- Image Playground: An app for creating images using Apple Intelligence.
- Genmoji: Create custom emojis using Apple Intelligence.
- Image Wand: Transform your rough sketches into related images within the Notes app.
- ChatGPT: Integration of ChatGPT with the new Siri.

Additionally, the Mail app may get a refreshed design that Apple showcased during WWDC23 in June. This new interface has yet to appear in either iOS 18 or iOS 18.1.
