What's New in iOS 27.2 RC

Apple today released iOS 27.2 RC to developers, just as predicted last week. The public rollout is expected as early as next week. Here’s what’s new in the RC.

In case you missed it, here’s everything added in beta 4: What’s New in iOS 27.2 Beta 4

iOS 27.2 RC (Release Candidate)
Build: 24B115
Released: October 19, 2026

HomePod

iOS 27.2 and HomePod Software 27.2 bring Sound Glow to every HomePod except the original model. The feature shows “ambient light that responds to the colors and rhythm of what’s playing.”

I tested it on my first generation HomePod mini and it looks genuinely gorgeous while music plays. Honestly wish Apple had shipped this years ago.

The second addition is Lock Controls, which disables the touch surface on top of the HomePod to prevent accidental playback or other unintended actions. This one works on every HomePod.

Lock Controls also doubles as a fix for the infamous “ghost touch” bug on HomePod. I dealt with it on my own HomePod mini and ended up having to open it up and disconnect the touch cable entirely. Really glad this option finally exists.

Code Findings :eyes:

Beta Profiles found images in the iOS 27.2 RC code pointing to a surround sound setup using four HomePods alongside the Apple TV 4K (4th generation).

According to the images, you can pair four HomePod 2 units, four HomePod mini 2 units, or mix two of each.

iOS 27.2 RC also includes new assets for the HomePod mini 2 and HomeView.

Apple is still updating the new Apple Music logo across the system, this time in Apple Account Settings. Seems like the new design is final for iOS 27.2.

iOS 27.2 RC doesn’t appear to bring any notable features or changes. I’ll keep using my device and update this post if I spot anything new. If you find something, share it in the comments below :backhand_index_pointing_down:

They forgot to give the update the description of what’s new, which is usually available on all Release Candidates and on all official Updates. This RC only has the regular “iOS beta gives you an early preview of upcoming…”.

Welcome to the community @Tony_Costa_Silva.

They added the “Release Candidate” back to the title. Earlier it was just “iOS 27.0” instead of “iOS 27.2 Release Candidate”

Still no release notes for iOS 27.2 RC. Wonder if an RC 2 is coming
This update also doesn’t seem to bring anything notable so far.

I wonder when they’ll finally remember to update the Low Power Mode icon in Control Center too.

And again, Apple redesigns Apple Music, but something so simple as this isn’t possible to implement :joy: :smiling_face_with_tear:

They’re not updating the Control Center battery icon until next year. Mark my words :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Everyone with a HomePod should update to version 27.2. The Sound Glow feature looks really beautiful. Why didn’t they add this sooner?

Wow, I love the Sound Glow. I suppose they would be waiting to launch it with Siri AI, but I love that it also comes to the first-generation HomePod mini. I’m very happy!

WOW :star_struck:

This looks amazing. I use the beta software only on my iPhone and iPad. And sometimes the Apple TV because tvOS 27.0 was to buggy. Looks like it’s time to upgrade the software on my HomePod mini

Now you can select text in Siri AI, previously in iOS 27.0.1 you could only select all the text and send it to other places like Image or PDF. Now you can send it to other places like Image or PDF by sliding the message to the left, but you can also select text, which was not possible before.

Xcode now asks you to download the System Components for iOS 27.1. Yesterday it still worked with System Components for iOS 27.0. Weird though is, that iOS 27.1 was never released to the public. (And the MacBook is running macOS 27.0.1).

Apple has updated the Accessory Location setting in the Home app. Previously, the description only said HomePod. As of iOS 27.2 it will say HomePod and HomeView, even if HomeView won’t have shipped by the time iOS 27.2 is released.

iOS 27.2 will likely be released to the public next week, probably on Monday. This brings several weird changes to the Home system. The Home app will mention HomeView, even though it will come out almost 3 weeks after the release of iOS 27.2.

And the HomePod mini will get the HomePod mini 2’s Sound Glow feature, even before the second generation, which it was probably originally made for.

I kind of feel like we’ll get a second RC next Monday where these things get removed and brought back later via an iOS 27.2.1 update or something on November 13th, and won’t be available in the official iOS 27.2 release. But maybe I’m just yapping - what do you guys think?

On October 15, Xcode was updated to version 27.1 on macOS 27.0.1, as Apple’s official minimum system requirements for this version of Xcode remain macOS 26.6 or later.

The release of this version is related to the fact that the iPhone Duo runs iOS 27.1, a version intended exclusively for this device and not distributed to the general public.

This update introduces support for the iPhone Duo simulator and allows apps built with the iOS 27.1 SDK to be submitted to TestFlight and the App Store.

It’s possible that what you say happens, but I would like to think that it doesn’t. Anyway, if they release a new RC, I’m waiting for it for this week and for Monday the version for the general public.

Why is yours 9.26 gigs? Mine says 10.33 gigs.

The download size can vary from device to device. So you have a larger download size, which typically means that your device is a newer one.
