Happy New Year, everyone!
As we kick off 2025, Apple is preparing to release the official version of iOS 18.3 (currently in beta). Right after that, we can expect the much-anticipated iOS 18.4 Beta. Let’s take a closer look at when these updates might arrive.
When will iOS 18.3 be released?
As mentioned earlier, iOS 18.3 is a “minor update” scheduled for release shortly after the holiday season. According to Mark Gurman, Apple might release it around late January or early February.
Here’s a quick look at past .3 releases:
- iOS 17.3: Monday, January 22, 2024
- iOS 16.3: Monday, January 23, 2023
- iOS 15.3: Wednesday, January 26, 2022
Based on this pattern, iOS 18.3 could launch as early as Monday, January 20, 2025, or, if Apple needs more time, January 27, 2025.
Updated on January 23, 2024: Apple released iOS 18.3 RC on January 21, so it’s likely that iOS 18.3 will be officially released next week, between January 27 and January 31.

What’s next? Of course, iOS 18.4 Beta
iOS 18.4 is expected to be the first major iOS update of 2025. While we’re looking forward to some exciting features, let’s first consider when Apple might release the beta version.
Here’s a look at previous .4 Beta releases:
- iOS 17.4 Beta 1: Thursday, January 25, 2024
- iOS 16.4 Beta 1: Thursday, February 16, 2023
- iOS 15.4 Beta 1: Thursday, January 27, 2022
Given that iOS 18.4 will continue to roll out new Apple Intelligence features, I expect iOS 18.4 Beta 1 to arrive by late January 2025, shortly after iOS 18.3. Initially, the beta might only be available for devices supporting Apple Intelligence, similar to how Apple handled the iOS 18.1 and 18.2 betas. Support for other devices could follow in Beta 2 or Beta 3.
What to expect in iOS 18.4
Reports suggest iOS 18.4 will focus on Siri and Apple Intelligence updates. While details are still sparse, here’s what’s rumored so far:
- Apple Intelligence expands to the EU .
- Support for changing default apps like Maps and Translate [EU only ].
- Apple Intelligence adds new languages, including Chinese, French, Japanese, Spanish, German, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, and Vietnamese.
- Siri gets smarter, recognizing on-screen content and performing relevant actions.
- More personalized Siri responses using data from your photos, calendar, Messages, and other apps.
- Smarter app-specific requests for Siri, like deleting specific emails, moving notes between folders, sharing links via email, opening documents, or summarizing articles.
- Apple Intelligence builds an on-device semantic index to process and store information from your emails, photos, websites, and apps.
